Nostalgia prompted an exception to the rule for Pretoriuskop, the Kruger National Park's oldest rest camp, and exotic flowering plants were allowed to stay, enhancing the strong sense of the past that is so pervasive.
The Pretoriuskop Rest Camp offers a cafeteria and a shop, a restaurant, a communal laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, braai facilities, a swimming pool for overnight residents, and a day visitor picnic area.

Very friendly staff in the shop and Wimpy with excellent food, but receptionist at gate was very blunt. Shop is great and well stocked. Ablution was clean, but hopelessly too few facilities for the campers.
Our wildlife park adventure was very enjoyable.
We really enjoyed the time in the wildlife park. Our only complaint/tip would be to hire a camping guide who can go with the campers to show where they can and can't camp.

Total decay is visible with the maintenance and cleanliness of gardens; not only t. oh f. Not Pretoriuskop, but from all the camps we visited. It's a shame that beds are left overgrown, full of bushes and untidy. Grass of inner circles of rondavels is long and bushy. Extremely sloppy and unacceptable sealing of tiles around sinks in the rondavel. Poor paintwork in toilets of Afsaal. Some of the signs indicating camps and distances between Pretoriuskop and Afsaal on the stone pillars are gone. What happened to the herds of impalas? Few giraffes seen and no buffalos! We know that the game park is bushy after heavy rains, but as seasoned game park goers and game seekers, less game is generally noticeable. Restaurants and shops are clean and tidy. Kruger National Park has always been S.A. 's pride, but severe decay is not only visible at camps, but also at entry gates. What a pity and a shame!
We enjoyed the stay very much. Very neat rooms, two beds and a washcloth. Barbecue outside. Communal kitchen area and ablution facilities.

The accommodation was nice and close to the ablution block, shop and Wimpy. Was very surprised that the round boards are cleaned. Night drive was very nice with a very very nice tour guide named March. Will definitely go again.
The camp should perhaps set up a lapa canopy at rondavels. It rained the whole time. We couldn't grill.

There are signs of improvements being made in the camp but basic maintenance of the gardens seems to be a challenge. Long grass and bushes everywhere. The store has good stock and friendly service but is very expensive. The washing facilities and ablution buildings are in good condition and kept clean. We stayed in a rondavel with our own bathroom. Everything worked and it was cleaned well. The beds are already on the old side and not so comfortable.

My daughter and I went to the wildlife park for 2 nights and it was an experience.
If you arrive late it is not guaranteed that you will get two pitches next to each other if you are a group.
From the gate to the camp itself it had been easy.
Chalets and ablutions are kept very clean. Our beds were made every day and braai area cleaned out when used. The Wimpy based at the camp is very well run. The food was always great. 10/10.

The specific chalet that we booked was spacious, clean and neat. The facilities were usable and practical. The en suite was clean and the shower was big. There were enough towels and a comfortable bed. The camp is also neat and it was a pleasure to walk around. The swimming pool was a winner. The restaurant and the area appears clean and safe.
Wonderful overnight stay at Pretoriuskop, park is beautiful, swimming pool is beautiful and will stay here again.
We arrived there at 4pm. Book in service was efficient. The only thing we had to pay was a conservation fee which was not communicated to us beforehand. Unfortunately, it was raining the whole night and the next morning. We were unable to sight anything behind the fence. My idea of sleeping in the rest camp is that we would hear animal sounds. The pool is too far from the campsites.
Every time we enjoy every moment in the bush with the animals.
We were disappointed that there wasn't even a kettle in the room. When you book accommodation rather than camping, you expect at least cutlery and a kettle, but there were only three glasses for our use. The rondavels share the campers' ablution facilities (3 showers, 2 baths and 5 toilets) and a communal kitchen. I think it's important to mention to prospective guests that they must take absolutely everything with them - from mugs for coffee to multiplugs to charge your phone, because you have to unplug the fridge or air conditioner to use the power point. We were grateful for the fridge, but at least expect a little more for the price you pay to live there.
We had a very nice stay here. Walked where we want to be. Animals were scarce when we were there even during the two game drives.

Just one complaint. No washing up liquid.
The experience was pretty bad. We slept in one of the 3 bed cabins. The sheets and blankets and pillows had an incredibly foul smell. Was almost impossible to sleep.
We spent 6 nights in the Kruger, of which Pretoriuskop was the last one. What a huge disappointment. The camp itself is not tidy. The grass was long and a fallen tree lay in front of a chalet next to us. There was no light near the braai facilities. This camp cannot be compared to other camps. There is no privacy. The swimming pool is very inconvenient and very far from the chalets. Inside the chalet we still found food from previous people in the fridge. The ablution facilities were not clean and tidy. The water in the showers was cold, sometimes the water stopped and then cold water again. Would not recommend this camp. We had to pay the additional charges as required by SANParks.

We had a great time camping at Pretoriuskop rest camp. Bathrooms always neat and clean.
It is a good starting point for visiting the Kruger.
Although the camp has accommodation types of all levels of comfort, we preferred the basic two-bed rondavel, which proved to be very popular. Communal kitchen facilities with boiling water, microwave, stove plates and washing up facilities, as well as the ablution facilities were close to the residential units. It was wonderful to sit by your campfire like in the old days and see everyone hanging out in the circle of rondavels outside. Not intended for squeamish people who believe you should have your own bathroom. The Wimpy on site was disappointing, but the convenience store offers everything imaginable for sale.

No problems with the booking, the room was as expected. Small and basic, but convenient for a short stay. Lots of charm! Pretoriuskop, however, is not central and close to the Kruger borders, so journeys are a bit limited from there. Evening game drive is a bit deceiving too.

We booked two units under the same name, through the website. When we arrived to check in we had been allocated units 118 and 12; completely at opposites ends of the site; The receptionist informed us that as we had not requested the units to be together there was nothing they could do to help. Unit 12 had been slightly up dated while Unit 118 was very old, shabby, had no proper kitchen area, yet was the same price as Unit 12. They advertise these bungalows as being equipped for self-catering; this is not the case. We did not have a enough cutlery for 2 people, no toaster, no small cooking pot or anything to cook in the microwave with, no kitchen knife for preparing food; the equipment listed as being provided was certainly not what was there. Guests in nearby rondavels came asking for forks and spoons, clearly they too did not have kitchen equipment. Some of the lights not working in both units, Unit 118, air con not working. House keeping and maintenance needs improvement. The beds were clean and very comfortable. The shop is well supplied and stocked with basic foodstuff and a wide range of souvenirs. Staff are friendly. Okay place to stay (eat and sleep) if you cannot get into one of the other camps. We felt embarrassed at how poorly the units were equipped and maintained as we travelled with guests from the UK, who had unit 118 which was really sub-standard.
Arrangements were of the best and encountered no problems. The stay was very good and was very satisfied.

Kruger National Park is always a good destination.
Bed very outdated. Cleaners cleaned very nicely. The rest of the camp is pretty peaceful and quiet. Just really needs more lighting - especially in the camping area where you barbecue. The dirt roads are just bad corrugated iron roads - really hard to drive any vehicle there.
It was small and lacked a fridge, but it was a wildlife park. Not quite a game camp, but lots of history. Stunning. Weird camp.
Our accommodation was very basic but was 100% for sleeping. Most of the day you are just on the road. The ablution and kitchen facilities were neat. Als worked and was clean. Would definitely want to stay there again.
Room did smell of smoke. Windows were open, might be from outside. Still, had a wonderful time.
Staff are terribly unfriendly and bombastic. Campsite was really very sketchy. It was the worst camp I have ever stayed at in the entire Kruger National Park.
Very disappointed in the accommodation. The thatched roof leaked in both rooms. Beds and our suitcases were wet. Table was so sticky, we didn't even want to eat on it.

It is immediately apparent to any visitor that Pretoriuskop, Kruger oldest rest camp, is unlike any other rest camp in the Kruger National Park. Brilliant red trees adorn Kruger like surroundings, pre-dating the decision to make exclusive use of indigenous plants in laying out rest camp gardens. Nostalgia prompted an exception to the rule for Pretoriuskop, the Kruger National Park's oldest rest camp, and exotic flowering plants were allowed to stay, enhancing the strong sense of the past that is so pervasive.
The Pretoriuskop Rest Camp offers a cafeteria and a shop, a restaurant, a communal laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, braai facilities, a swimming pool for overnight residents, and a day visitor picnic area.
Activities at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp include guided bush walks, and morning, night and day game drives in the company of trained field guides, and bush breakfast and bush braais.
